Darkness Falls
It’s a memory not a dream
Living in it every day
I will always be seven
somewhere there is a sunlit field
cut into a hillside of chalk
somewhen darkness falls
as i wait for my brother
i walk down the steps to find him
the ambulance lights flicker
my mother trying to breathe life into her drowned son
my world dies
adults say
the kids are alright
they will see to themselves
or so they say
but it is not so
some hurts do not heal
inseparable, we are separated
every day my brother dies
